Any vegan will tell you the first question they’re asked is “how do you get enough protein?” When our founder Alden was first making Redd bars, he knew he had to find the right protein source – not just to get MORE protein, but to get better protein.
He tested dozens of options and learned a lot in the process.
Here’s why we chose vegan protein alternatives:
One of the newest protein options on the market. Pea protein is made from yellow split peas and is one of the healthiest options on the market. Pea protein has a very mild, pleasantly sweet taste and was quickly adopted since its one of the better tasting proteins. The process used for concentrating pea protein is simple and water based, making the end product very natural.
The downside is that pea protein is not a complete protein like meat. It is rich in some but not all amino acids. It is best when blended with other proteins that fill in the gaps of amino acids. It’s commonly mixed with rice protein. At Redd, we combine our pea protein with pumpkin seed protein to make a powerhouse vegan alternative.
Pumpkin Seed Protein
For those looking for a vegan or vegetarian option for protein alternatives, pumpkin seed protein may be the ideal option. It is non-allergenic and easy for your body to digest.
Now recognized as a Superfood, pumpkin seed protein is a nutrient dense and extremely effective source of protein. Beyond being a great alternative to other protein options it contains a variety of vitamins and minerals that support overall health including phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, zinc, copper, iron, antioxidants, vitamin K, omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids and a number of plant sterols. Since it contains 18 amino acids it is a great protein replacement.
When looking for the best protein source for your smoothies, shakes, and bars – consider the healthiest option for your unique body. Taste and test a variety of products until you find the perfect match. We took years to find the right blend of proteins for our bars and have loved the results!
