East vs. West: Best of Both Worlds

It’s Time to end the feud

Okay, East Coasters: we have some news. We’ve just returned from an exploratory mission and discovered that there is, in fact, a whole ‘nother side to this country. And not just any old side, either: we’re talking a sunny, groovy, vibe-y utopian paradise known as California.

Forgive us for being late to the party – California hasn’t been a new discovery for a few hundred years. But we can get a little caught up here in our East Coast world, and sometimes we forget about everything that isn’t the coldly beautiful Atlantic or the coldly beautiful New York. Can you blame us?

But Southern California slapped us in the face this week, with its oceanside highways and beachy aesthetic, and we’re ready to embrace a bicoastal philosophy. It won’t always be easy – the East Coast vs. West Coast feud runs far deeper than Biggie and Tupac – but who says you can’t have the best of both worlds?

We’ve curated a list of our favorite things from both coasts for you to check out. Be sure to let us know what we missed @reddbar!

East Coast:

Liquiteria: We LOVE their fresh juices, smoothies, and açai bowls, and not just because they pair perfectly with Redd in the morning.

Black on Black: As much as we can get down with the wild and arty outfits of the other coast, nothing compares to an all-black getup for style and ease. Who has time to try to match when there’s so much to do in the city?

West Coast:

Anderson .Paak, Malibu: This Grammy-nominated album is infectiously funky and perfectly California. Perfect for a drive down the PCH!

The Broad: LA’s newest contemporary art museum draws standby lines of up to 3 hours, but the wait is worth it for a chance to walk among Warhols and Basquiats.

Republique: This bakery-restaurant-café serves up some of our favorite croissants, with lattés to match.
